1v1 PvP - Tips & Tricks
Troop balance, counters, and smart deployment.
General Formation
Normally in PvP the typical generic formation is 5/2/3. Formations matter more when you have more of your highest-level troops than you can send out.
This is a good formation, however I personally feel and usually do well by adjusting to what the enemy has.
Infantry
Make sure that I at least have more infantry than them. The infantry's job is mainly to be a shield whilst doing a little bit damage. I then put a little extra infantry just for damage spread so they survive better.
If they have a large amount of archers, then I will add just a little more infantry to spread the damage around for that.
Note: Infantry can do extra damage on cavalry and have some resistance to cavalry damage. However, as infantry are the front line soldiers, they won’t attack cavalry while there are still infantry left on the enemy’s side.
Cavalry
Cavalry are basically happily sipping tea for most of the time watching the infantry recieve all the damage during the battle. They also attack whoever is in front, however dont get attacked themselves while there are still infantry on the field. They are essentially a back-up wave of defense once infantry die.
Once this happens they move to the front line, and their job becomes like infantry, both recieving and giving damage. However, each individual lvl 7+ cavalry has a 20% chance to attack archers and can have a damage boost against them. Due to this I am also carefull about enemies with level 7+ cavalry as they can do a lot of damage to my archers.
So once I’ve adjusted my infantry count, I then put quite a bit of cavalry to increase my opportunities for killing their archers as much as possible. This is because the less archers they have, the less infantry I will lose.
Archers
Archers always attack whoever is left at the front line. So normally after the above, I focus all my remaining forces on archers so I can overwhelm the enemy’s front line with archer damage. Archers can have damage/defence boosts activate agaist infantry
Summary
I focus most of my forces around deploying archers to overwhelm their infantry, but always make sure I have enough infantry to survive the battle, and enough cavalry to weaken their attack potential.
Normally I pick my battles so that I can have a huge number of archers to send out rather than infantry and cavalry, ensuring minimized losses for me.
Bonus Tips
If for any reason I have a lot of troops in my infirmary needing to be healed, Instead of healing them allwhich can take a long time, or consume a lot of heal speed boosts, I will only heal my troops in smaller batches. This way when the alliance members hit the Help button my troops will be healed quicker for free, thus being available quicker to ready to return to battle and keeping my infirmary count low, reducing the chance of troop death due preventing infirmary overflow.
Be carefull attacking players who have their cities on their own territories, as these cities have additional bonuses.
To increase success if you click on your city, and select "City Bonus", you will see some usefull items that can boost your defence and attack prospects. Such as Squad lethality, Attack or defence etc and additional ones to lower the enemies stats. these cost gems however (which as a free to play player I typically save for hero roulette).
